Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee

The Chinese Taipei Olympic flag. Between the years 1930 to 1950 there was a problem between Beijing and Taipei to know who the International Olympic Committee should recognize as the Chinese Olympic Committee. In 1953 Beijing protested to designate Taiwan as Chinese Olympic Committee and in 1958 the People's Republic of China retired from both the International Olympic Committee and the international sports federations. In 1975, the People's Republic of China wanted to rejoin the Olympic Games demanding the expulsion of the IOC from Taiwan. At the 1976 Montreal Olympics, athletes in Taiwan do not take part in sporting events but in the opening parade, as the Canadian government does not allow them to participate under the name "Republic of China." In 1979, the IOC recognized Beijing as the Chinese Olympic Committee and maintained the recognition of the Taipei Olympic Committee as the Olympic Committee of China Taipei and recommended to Taiwan to change the flag (Olympic flag of China Taipei) and the anthem with which its athletes to participate in the upcoming Olympics.
