A floating jetty consists of permanent or semi permanent pontoon, possibly with superstructure. The superstructure can have one or more decks. The superstructure can serve as a warehouse if the floating dock is intended for the cargo ships, or as a river station in the case of passenger ships. There are also eateries, shops and even offices.

In the Soviet Union, the floating slopes of concrete were produced in large numbers. The construction of such concrete vessels began in 1925. Twenty-two were produced before the Second World War. After the war, standardized types of such scaffolds were designed, which were then built in the large series, unlike the pre-war scaffolds, which showed an individual character.

The superstructure of the concrete floating jetty was made of wood. Also see
