Francisco de Berardo


Francisco de Berardo (Barcelona, ​​- Vienna, 1714) marquis of Montnegre. Aristocrat and Spanish diplomat in favor of the House of Austria during the War of Spanish Succession, he was ambassador of the Three Commons in Vienna during the Campaign of Catalonia (1713-1714).

He was involved in the Austracist conspiracy of 1704 and participated in the Cortes de Cataluña celebrated by Charles of Austria in 1705. He defended Barcelona during the Bourbon site of 1706 and accompanied the Austrian suitor during the offensive of 1710 which culminated with the military occupation of Toledo and Madrid; the following year Charles of Austria named him Marquis de Montnegre. In 1713, during the negotiation of the Treaty of Utrecht, he was ambassador of Three Commons of Catalonia in London until he was replaced by Marquis of Vilallonga, passing later to Vienna where it died at the end of 1714.
