Mimene toxopei


Mimene toxopei is a moth of the Hesperiidae family, the dicopters. The length of the butterfly's wing is 16 to more than 17 millimeters.

The species is described in a special of Zoological Notices published by Naturalis, which appeared on January 1, 2008 in honor of the 250th anniversary of the zoological nomenclature. On January 1, 1758, the 10th edition of Systema Naturae of Carolus Linnaeus appeared.

The scientific name of the butterfly refers to L.J. Toxopeus who collected three copies of this butterfly in 1938 in Papua New Guinea. The specimens were captured at heights between 2250 and 2800 meters. Toxopeus died at the age of 56 in a traffic accident in 1951.
