Shield of Villaviciosa

The shield of the Asturian council of Villaviciosa appears quartered in the shape of a cross.

Surround the whole shield with the gold necklace of the order of toisón, overlaid with an eagle of two heads from which an imperial crown surmounts.

On both sides of the eagle we see two columns with the captions "Plus (on the right) Ultra (on the left)". All this representation has its origin with the arrival of the emperor Carlos I to the Villa, based on a supposed concession to the council of the imperial arms on the part of Carlos I. The shield represents the arms that this one used in 1520, three years after passing through the area.
