The Skin of Grief is an opera by Giselher Klebe who wrote the libretto under the title Die tödlichen Wünsche, (The Deadly Vows). The theme is based on Honoré de Balzac's novel La Peau de chagrin.
Opera in three acts composed of fifteen lyric scenes, it was presented for the first time on June 14, 1959 at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein of Düsseldorf.
