In 1972, part of the Labor Party campaigned against the EEC membership referendum. through a committee: Arbeiderbevegelsens informasjonskomité word norsk medlemskap i EF while Labor was for membership. Therefore, the opponents chose to leave the Labor Party to create their own party: the Socialist Democrats. Which came to the legislative elections of 1973 as part of the Socialist Electoral Alliance. In 1975, the party declared for the creation of the rallying party called Left Socialist Party, which resulted in the self-dissolution of the party of the Socialist Democrats in 1976.
