Saarikoski (Kiruna)

Saarikoski is a place name within the Swedish municipality of Kiruna, already known in the 18th century. It is named after only two houses. Saarikosi can only be reached via Finland. One must cross the Könkämä River, European road 8 between Kilpisjärvi and Kaaresuvanto. It mainly serves as end / starting point for nature walks. It once belonged to the Congregational Rounala, a municipality that stretches along the river. For a while it has served as a smuggling place between Sweden and Finland. Photo
