Nikolaj Loeganski started his studies at Moscow Central Music School and then studied at the Moscow Conservatory. His teachers included Tatjana Kestner, Tatjana Nikolajeva and Sergej Dorenski.

During the eighties and nineties, Loeganski won the necessary prizes at various music competitions. At the same time, he began to make recordings for the Melodia (USSR) and Vanguard Classics (Netherlands). His performance during the winners concert of the tenth version of the International Chess game was recorded and published on the Pioneer Classics label, both on CD and on video laser disc format. More recordings for Japanese tags followed. Later he also took up for Warner Classics (UK) and Pentatone Classics (Netherlands).

Loeganski has performed with Vadim Repin, Aleksandr Knjazev, Joshua Bell, Joeri Basjmet and Mischa Maisky. He also performed with conductors such as Riccardo Chailly, Valeri Gergiev, Neeme Järvi, Kurt Masur, Michail Pletnev, Edo de Waart, Gennady Rozjestestvenski, Leonard Slatkin, Vladimir Spivakov, Jevgeni Svetlanov, Joeri Simonov, Joeri Temirkanov, Christoph Eschenbach and Vladimir Fjodosejev worked.
