Santiago and Santana

Santiago and Santana (or Santa Ana) is the denomination of the patron festivities of the town of Grado (Asturias, Spain) and the town of Berlanga (Badajoz, Spain). The festive calendar ends on July 26 with the celebration of Santana, having its big day on July 25, which is celebrated Santiago.

In Grado, after the festival of Santiago, during the morning of Santana, many young people roam the streets of the town while people throw water from their balconies. Accompanying the march, there is a cavalcade with floats and bands. At noon, people gather in the Parque Arriba of the town to eat the typical Asturian bollu preñao. At dusk the Xigantón burns, a doll filled with explosives, and at twelve o'clock at night fireworks are thrown at the final fire; although during the previous weeks they also celebrate parties in the different neighborhoods of the city.
