Consistency (dust property)

The consistency is a measure of the amount of solid added per unit of liquid in a suspension.

It is similar to the concentration, which indicates the amount of solute per unit of fluid.

The consistency can be determined by weighing and sieving the suspension. The residual substance is dried and then the weight of unsolvated substance can be calculated in the suspension.

This term is widely used in paper production, with mostly the amount of suspended fiber in the process water.
