Joop Celis


Joop Celis (1958) is a Dutch pianist.

He studied at the Maastricht Conservatory at Jo Dusseldorp, and later at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen at Paul Badura-Skoda. After that he built a career as soloist, chamber musician and teacher. He performed at various (inter) national stages and won prizes at competitions in Bolzano (Busoni Competition), Épinal and Eindhoven (Tromp Concerning). Soon after his studies, he was appointed as a piano teacher at the Maastricht Conservatory. In addition, he also teaches at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven today. Since September 2011 he has been connected as a piano teacher at the Fontys Conservatory Tilburg.

Joop Celis is a permanent duo partner of violinist Roeland Gehlen. He also forms a piano dance with pianist Frédéric Meinders. International celebrity gained Celis from 2005 when he placed a large number of piano works by the relatively unknown British composer York Bowen for the Chandos label on CD.
