The Odyssey (Spanish television program)

The Odyssey is the name of a series of its own production that was broadcast by Televisión Española during childhood and youth time in 1976, created by Els Joglars.

He told in a humorous way the classic story of The Odyssey, with the peculiarity that it was recorded with a manifest but at the same time very funny lack of means. For example, the ships in which Ulysses and his companions traveled through the Aegean Sea, were simple dressers on which the actors were uploaded, without hiding it in any way, so that when they said they went down to the cellar they simply went into the dresser . The same group of actors could represent the companions of Ulysses or, in the next plane, the sirens that called them to lead them to disaster; the character of Telemachus, the son of Ulysses and supposedly a child, was played by an actor who was much older, but who behaved like a baby; the slowed-down images ("slow motion") were imitated by the actors, simply slowing down their movements; the supposedly enormous height of the cyclops attacking Ulysses was simulated by placing the camera from a very low plane; the waves were imitated by several sheets that were moved from right to left; the decoration of the triumphal walk between columns of the last chapter had only two cardboard columns, which were being moved forward by the actors as the protagonists advanced; and many other comic effects made with very poor means.

The recording studio was not hidden, so it was common for stairs, ceilings, spotlights, etc. to appear on the screen.

The address was given by Albert Boadella, on scripts by Francesc Nello. The main actors were Pau Casares, Elisa Crehuet, Anna Rosa Cisquella, Ferran Rañé, Jaume Sorribas, Víctor Martínez de la Hidalga, Gabriel Renom, Andreu Solsona, Nuria Nebot and Fermí Reixach.

The Odyssey was a breath of fresh and imaginative air in the childhood and youth programming of the mid-70s in Spain.
