Edict of Worms

The Edict of Worms was proclaimed on May 25, 1521 by the newly elected Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, Charles V, and Cardinal Girolamo Aleandro, papal nuncio, against Luther, after the episode of the Diet of Worms in the beginnings of the process known as the Protestant Reformation. In it, Luther was declared a fugitive and a heretic, which officially marks the breaking of Lutheranism with the Catholic Church.

It should not be confused with the Concordat de Worms (XII century) or with the edict signed in the same city of Worms on December 17, 1520 by Charles V himself to repress the Communities of Castile.
