Sociolecto

A sociallect or social dialect describes the linguistic variety used by a social class. Within the classification of linguistic varieties the sociolects correspond to what Eugen Coşeriu calls diastráticas varieties, closely related to the diaphasic varieties or registers of the language. Definition According to the greimasian tradition, the sociolect, in opposition to the idiolect, designates the semiotic activities in its relation with the social stratification, in the levels of lexical surface. The study of a sociolect can give answers, from the language of social use, about what is understood by culture, in the interactions of the collective and individual universes.
