CICS, the acronym in English of Customer Information Control System (in Spanish, Sistema de control de información de clientes), is a transactional manager, or teleprocessing monitor, that runs mainly on IBM mainframes with OS / 390 operating systems. , z / OS or VSE. There are also versions of CICS for other environments, such as OS / 400, OS / 2, etc. The version for Unix environments is called the TX Series.

CICS is a system designed to process both online and batch transactions. On large IBM zSeries computers, a CICS system can service thousands of transactions per second. It is a key piece in the services of many banks, administrations and large companies. CICS applications can be written in different languages ​​such as COBOL, PL / I, C, C ++, assembly code, REXX and Java. For historical reasons, most CICS applications are written in COBOL or PL / I.
