La Merced Hospital (also known as Hospital del Campo del Rey) was a health institution created in the year 1486 near the Segovia Bridge (Madrid), founded by the Bishop of Astorga García Álvarez de Toledo for the treatment of sick women. It was located on a plot near the Alcazar of Madrid known as "Campo del Rey". When Felipe II created the capital in Madrid, in an attempt to reunify hospitals in a general, he ordered it dissolved in 1566. It was in operation a few more decades until in 1580 the religious images were moved to the church of Santa Cruz
