AVANTI was founded on March 18, 1983 by some soccer players from the field football club CSL (now vv Stiens). The organization of AVANTI was completely changed from the 2001-2002 season. In this way, the Stichting Topzaalvoetbal AVANTI Friesland was established, of which the new business club AVANTI Friesland is part of. The purpose of this was to further professionalize the soccer field in this region and AVANTI and to achieve the financial risks associated with top sport from the association.
After a few years at the highest Dutch level (then the Top Division), the first Avanti team retired at the end of season 2011-2012. Unfortunately, the first team of men also declined the next season from the First Division. This resulted in an expiration of the selection because the economic crisis could not pay the players' expenses compensation. The board decided to withdraw the first team. Instead, AVANTI focused on women's selection.
After spending three seasons in the women's selection, the 1st Women's Team could join the Eredivisie as of 2016-2017. With this, Avanti is the first Dutch football club in the Netherlands to reach the highest level with both men and women without taking an honorary team from outside. Externe link
