Asahi (朝日 町, Asahi-machi) was a town in the Higashitagawa district of Yamagata Prefecture, north of Honshū Island, Japan.

The town has no special relationship with the other Asahi in the same prefecture, nor with the adjacent Asahi in Niigata prefecture. Asahi literally means "morning sun". The city owes its name to the Asahi Mountains, which shine with the morning light. History edit code

The town was founded in 1954 by the merger of the villages of Oizumi, Hongo, and Azuma. On October 1, 2005, however, it is integrated with the city of Tsuruoka, and is no longer an independent administrative entity.
