José Mora and del Río

José Mora y del Río (Pajacuarán, February 24, 1854 - Mexico City, April 22, 1928) was a Mexican Roman Catholic priest.

Mora y del Río was dedicated to the priest in 1877, and was subsequently bishop of Tehuantepec, Tulancingo and León in 1893. In 1908 he was appointed as Archbishop of Mexico City. He opposed the Mexican Revolution and Antlerical Articles of the 1917 Mexican Constitution. He was a declared opponent of President Plutarco Elías Calles (1924-1928). The arguments between Mora y del Río and Calles were one of the causes of the outbreak of the Cristero War in 1926.
