The wedding of Miroslava and Asotio Taronita.
Miroslava (in Bulgarian: Мирослава) was one of the daughters of Tsar Samuel of Bulgaria and Agate of Bulgaria. Princess Miroslava fell in love with the noble Byzantine captive Asotio Taronita, who was of Armenian origin, and threatened to commit suicide if she was not allowed to marry him. Samuel agreed and appointed Asotio governor of Dirraquio.
Later Asotio got in touch with the local Byzantines and the influential Juan Criselio, Samuel's father-in-law. Asotio and Miroslava approached one of the Byzantine ships that had besieged the city and fled to Constantinople. In Constantinople, Emperor Basil II granted Asotio the title of patrician and Miroslava was honored with the title of zoste patricia (lady of company).
