Séverin Pineau, Latin Severinus Pinaeus or Pinoeus, is a French surgeon, born in Chartres in the middle of the 16th century, died in Chartres in 1619.

He is particularly known for his work in the fields of gynecology and obstetrics. His work De virginitatis notis, graviditate & amp; Partu, dealing with virginity, pregnancy and childbirth caused a sensation in his day by the direct frankness with which he deals with these subjects. Some copies of the book are confiscated for this reason. He advocated symphysiotomy (in) as early as 1597 to prioritize childbirth - currently illegal.

He lived in Paris and was the king's surgeon. change the code edit code
