Shlomo Heiman


Shlomo Heiman (1892-1945) is a Rabbi, Talmudist and Rosh Yeshiva (Dean) of the most prominent yeshivot in Europe and America. Biographical elementedit code

Shlomo was born in 1892 in Minsk, Belarus. His father, Rabbi Michael Heiman sends him to Kaminetz's yeshiva to study with Baruch Ber Lebowitz. In 1918, he married the daughter of Rabbi Yochanon Rudensky of Volojine.

After his marriage, Shlomo officiates as maguid shiour at the Kaminetz yeshiva where he gains his reputation.

During the First World War, he was briefly enlisted in the Russian army.

After the First World War, he began giving Talmudic lectures at Baranowitz's Ohh Torah yeshiva, under the direction of Rabbi Elkhanan Wasserman.

In 1927, at the request of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski of Vilna, he directed the Yeshivat Ramailles in Vilnius, a position he held until 1935.

In 1935, Heiman was invited by Rabbi Shraga Feivel Mendlowitz to lead the Torah Vodaath institutions in the United States. He accepts this position and dies in the United States in 1945.
