Cave of the Riera


La Riera Cave is located in the village of La Quintana, within the parish of Posada de Llanes in the Asturian council of Llanes, in Spain.

The cave is located on a southern slope of the mountain of La Llera, near the Cabrales River and the Cantabrian Sea.

The cave was discovered by the Count of Vega del Sella, Ricardo Duque de Estrada, in 1917 and was excavated by him in 1917-18. It presents prehistoric remains from Solutrean, Magdalenian, Azilian and Asturian times as remains of tools Bones

The cave is located inside the cave complex called Cueto de la Llera, showing remains of rock paintings formed by spots.

The cave is closed to the public, being protected under the name of Asset of Cultural Interest.
