Pedro de Cárdenas and Arbieto


Pedro de Cárdenas y Arbieto (Lima, 1607 -?), creole lawyer who held important positions in the Viceroyalty of Peru. He was Rector of the University of San Marcos. Biography

He began his studies at the Royal College of San Martín (1618), continuing in the University of San Marcos, where he obtained the degree of Doctor in Laws and Canons. Received of lawyer before the Real Hearing of Lima, dedicated to the professional exercise and by order of the Cabildo of Lima, it acted like advisor of the ordinary mayors and of the ecclesiastical court.

He was soon recognized as one of the greatest scholars of this kingdom, was elected rector of the University (1646) and served successively as advisor to the viceroys Count of Alba de Liste (1655) and Count of Santisteban (1661), with so much efficiency that was proposed to occupy the position of fiscal of the Real Hearing.
