A stake is an administrative division of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A stake consists of a number of parishes and branches. It covers a specific territory and corresponds to the image of the tent described in Isaiah 54: 2: "Extend your ropes, and strengthen your stakes! Each stake in Sion supports and helps keep the church in place just as a tent is held by its pegs. Doctrinally speaking, the stake is the gathering place for the remnant of Israel (see Doctrine and Covenants 82: 13-14, 101: 17-21).
