Agenzia Fides is the press agency of the Holy See. Its headquarters is in the Palace of Propaganda Fide in the Vatican City and is part of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. It was created in 1927 as the first missionary press agency for the Catholic Church and was approved by Pope Pius XI. Current director is prof. Luca de Mata.
The first editions were in English, French and Polish, followed by Italian (1929), Spanish (1930) and German (1932), followed by Chinese (1998), Portuguese (2002) and Arabic (2008). From 1998 Agenzia Fides was put on the Internet with up to five daily reports of non-European events. Their website contains information on statistics of missionaries who died as martyrs.
The agency's archive of images includes about 10,000 photographs documenting the history of Catholic missions from the 1930s to the 1990s.
