Ministry of Transport, National Infrastructure and Road Safety


The Ministry of Transport, National Infrastructure and Road Safety of the Government of Israel, also called Ministry of Transport, is the government department responsible for transport in the State of Israel. Its political leader is the Minister of Transport, position currently occupied by Yisrael Katz of the centrist Likud party. It is a relatively small post in the Israeli cabinet, which is usually given to the smaller parties in which coalitions govern. However, there has been a Minister of Transport in every Israeli government to date.

Three prime ministers (David Ben-Gurion, Menahem Begin and Ariel Sharon) have been ministers of transport being in the position of prime minister, but only for short periods of time; while three transport ministers (Ezer Weizman, Moshe Katsav and Shimon Peres) have become presidents.
