Volcanology Institute of the Canary Islands


The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (or Involcan) is an organism for the study of the volcanos of the Canary Islands (Spain). It was created in June 2010 establishing its headquarters in the city of Puerto de la Cruz (Tenerife).

The incorporation of this body also participated the Technological and Renewable Energy Institute of Tenerife and the University of La Laguna.

The creation of the Canary Islands Volcanological Institute was agreed by the plenary of the Upper House on November 2, 2005, when a motion was approved by the then president of the Tenerife Chapter, Ricardo Melchior Navarro during his term as senator. The institute was created on the occasion of the inauguration of the international congress "Cities on Volcanoes 6 - Tenerife 2010", which brought together more than 856 participants from 52 countries.
