Auxois (provincie)

The Auxois (Latin: Alesiensis pagus) is an ancient country and former province of France, which was part of the duchy of Burgundy since 1082 and later also regarded as a sub-province of Burgundy. The region thanks its name to the ancient Roman city of Alesia. Nowadays, he consists of the arrondissements Avallon and Montbard, respectively, in the departments of Yonne and Côte d'Or.

Some of the town's municipalities still think of the old pays: Montlay-en-Auxois, Pouilly-en-Auxois, Semur-en-Auxois, Vandenesse-en-Auxois, Villy-en-Auxois, all in the Côte d'Or. Externe link
