The boteiro is the most striking figure of the entroido or carnival of Viana do Bolo. With its striking black mask, the boteiro has as its mission to keep the spectators away, bouncing over a short pole of colors called "monca". On the head, the boteiro carries the call screen, an ornament of vivid colors that is fastened to the head. In addition, the dress of the boteiro is also composed of three other pieces: red satin pants, leather leggings called "leguis", and a colorful shirt made from a plush t-shirt, on which are sewn curly ribbons of silk or satin that form colorful drawings of colors, using in it more than 1,000 meters of tape. The belt is made of leather lined with cloth and twelve shears (bells) that tinkle when the thrower jumps.
