Desmogleins are a family of cadherins consisting of DSG1, DSG2, DSG3 and DSG4 (sometimes called desmoglein 1, 2, 3 and 4). They play a role in the formation of desmosomes that bind the epithelial cells together. The same desmogleines will not be found in desmosomes depending on the location and the state of differentiation and maturation of these cells.
