Frafra

The Frafra are an ethnic subgroup of the Gurensi, often referred to as Gurensi. They live in the north of the West African country of Ghana, around the city of Bolgatanga. The people speak the language Gurtaal Gurune.

The name is given by the British. When the British entered Gurenseland for the first time, they were greeted by the locals with the words "fara fara". Because the British heard this often, they called these people Frafra and their language was Frafra. Because this term has been devised by the colonizer, Frafra has been burned to use Gurensi as a name for their people, the original name.
