Wing (Air Force)

A wing (English for "wing"), air force wing or air wing is a major operational flying unit of an air force.

In air forces around the world, a wing is formed from three or four separate flying squadrons.

The command of the unit is led by the wing commander; Its rank is equivalent to that of a Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Force.

Within the Dutch Defense Academy, an Air Force Cadettenwing has been in place since January 1, 2012. Within this Cadet Revolution, future officers for the Air Force Command are trained. The Wing consists of the 121 Squadron and the 122 Squadron. Within the 121 Squadron, the cadets receive a scientific education, within the 122 Squadron, cadets of the so-called short model (training time initially 1 year) are trained. Source listing
