Arnaldo de la Porte

Arnaldo de La Porte or Laporte, a grammarian, Hispanist and Dutch lexicographer who lived in the 17th century. Introduction

He wrote a new dictionario or thesoro of the Spanish and Flemish language (Antwerp, 1659, reprinted in 1669) that was important for Dutch and Castilian. The Spanish-Dutch part contains about thirty-four thousand articles, but completely plagiarized the "Spanish-French-Dutch" part of the previous anonymous dictionary published in Antwerp in 1639), suppressing the French part; more interest has the "Dutch-Spanish" part, which lines up in the thirty thousand articles and does not rework the previous part, but adds and corrects, so that it can find a whole series of words that were not recorded by the previous lexicographers, including neologisms of the sixteenth and seventeenth.
