Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda (born May 18, 1933 in Haradanahalli, Mysore state of Karnataka, India) is an Indian politician who has been the 14th Prime Minister of the Republic of India (1996-1997) and the 14th Chief Minister of the State of Karnataka (1994-1996). He was born in an agricultural family, won his first seat in the assembly of the state of Karnataka in 1962, becoming chief minister of Karnataka. By the end of 1970, Deve Gowda had grown up in the Janata party and was an important figure in the reunification of successor, the Janata Jal party, after the original group split in 1980.
