Amazonas (motorcycle brand)


Amazonas is a Brazilian brand of motorcycles.

From bedrijfsnaam was: Amazonas Motorcycle Specials ltd. of Brazil, Manaus.

The Brazilian factory since 1978 produced the AME 1600, incorporating a four-cylinder boxer engine, which originated from the Volkswagen Beetle. The fuel supply was provided by two Solex 32mm carburetors. He had four gears plus a back gear and delivered 68 hp.

It was a huge motorcycle, which seemed even bigger because even around the engine, it was plentifully installed. The machine had a dry weight of 335 kg and reached a top speed of 175 km / h. In Brazil, the machine was quite popular and was even deployed by police forces. Outside Brazil, the AME 1600 was imported here and there, but no large numbers were sold. Production ended around 1990.
