Direct relationship

In mathematics and statistics, a direct relationship is a positive relationship between two variables that increase or decrease together.

For example, there is a direct relationship between age and cardiovascular risk. The older you are, the more likely you are to have the disease; and the younger you are, the less likely you are to have it.

This notion is opposed to that of inverse relationship.
