The Community of Villa and Land of Caracena were formed by thirty-two villages that were divided into three sexmos and with a total area of 239.35 km².
Located in the present province of Soria and surrounded by the Communities of Villa and Tierra de San Esteban, Osma, Gormaz, Atienza and Ayllón

It has also documented the land membership of the village of Ines that would achieve autonomy through villazgo, and even that of Lumias who later passed the jurisdiction of Berlanga.
The region of Caracena, also known as Tiermes-Caracena, or even Gormaz-Caracena, is an attempt to bring together all the people of this Finisterre interior or ass of the southwestern province of Soria, all afflicted by the which are endemic to the depopulation, all harassed by the influence of other regions more powerful economically, all poorly communicated and poor also in infrastructure, but with similar cultural features, all with less than a hundred inhabitants, most with less than twenty. Thus there is no way to make a region, but this region is real and is not that of the Burgo de Osma, nor that of San Esteban de Gormaz, nor that of Berlanga de Duero.
The largest town today is Retortillo and in it should reside the regional capital. The villages of Montejo de Tiermes, Ligos, Torresuso, Cuevas de Ayllón, Noviales and Liceras, which are not historically of the Land of Caracena if not of the one of Ayllón, are included in this region, since the one of their Villa mother, was left in the province of Segovia
