Espurio Opio Córnicen (in Latin Spurius Oppius Cornicen), one of the plebeian members of the second decenvirate, from year 450 a. C. When his decenviros colleagues marched against the enemy, Cornicen remained like companion of Apio Claudius Crassus to take care of the city, and it was he who summoned to the Senate when the town raised in arms after the death of Virginia. >

The following year (449 BC), he was sent to jail for having ordered to spank a veteran, twenty-seven years of service, apparently without any cause. Cornicen, fearing the unfortunate outcome of the trial, committed suicide in prison. (Liv. Iii, 35, 41, 49, 50, 58; Dionis, X. 58, x 23, 44, 46)
