Love metal is a subgenre within gothic metal.
The first, and currently only known, love metal group, is the Finnish HIM (abbreviation of His Infernal Majesty). They were also the creator of the genre. Because the singer was tempted by interviewers to ask him what kind of genre HIM actually played, they called their fourth album Love Metal, in response to all those questions. This is also the first album where singer Vill Valo is not on the cover, instead the symbol of the group is on the cover.
The texts are about love and death. Their texts are usually enigmatic and have no clear meaning. HIM does this because they find that their fans and listeners must follow their own interpretation, not the pre-cheated interpretations as with other bands.
Because many metal groups use the pentagram somewhere, and HIM wants to play "Love" metal, they use a combination of a heart and the pentagram, known as the heart chart as a symbol.
