Fresh herbs such as ginseng or jujube, or raw animals such as seahorses, snakes or termites, are put in a large earthenware jar filled with alcohol that is allowed to stand for days to allow the medicinal substances of the herbs or animals dissolve in the liquor. The distilled liquor should be strong enough, with at least 45% alcohol.
