Fili (poet)

The filid (from the Audience: singular: 'fili', plural 'filid') formed a class of learned poets in medieval Ireland. Because, with the advent of Christianity, the druids lost their position, the filid took over several of their duties. Filid often acted as adviser, judge and scholar.

The law of the law makes a strict distinction between filid and barden, in which bard golden as lesser (for non-studied) poets. However, after the conquest of Ireland by the Normans, the distinction between barden and filid diluted.
