Dwejra Bay (Cabin Bay, Maltese: Qala ta-Dwejra) is a small bay west of Gozo. This bay is famous for being closed on the sea side by Fungus Rock, an islet on which the scarlet cynomorium grows (in Maltese Għerq tal-Ġeneral - Root of the General) a plant that entered the pharmacopoeia of the Sacra Infermeria. Highly sought after in the 18th century, its rarity made it very expensive. The Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem had the monopoly of its harvest and trade. Notes and edit the code
