Hunter-killer sight

Must not be confused with the Hunter-Killer cartoon. This article is a draft on weapons.

In the field of battle tanks (MBT), the Hunter-killer aiming is a leader and shooter sighting system that allows the leader to acquire a target, start a firing sequence and transfer, via the on-board electronics, to the shooter for the shooting phase, so that the leader can acquire other objectives.

In a more or less constant way, the leader has a panoramic aiming device that allows him to be recognized and acquired over 360 °, unlike the shooter where the aim is coaxial with the main weapon.

The leader very often has the opportunity to treat a target in priority as long as the shooter did not trigger the firing. This makes it possible to deal with an imminent threat without wasting time to indicate the target to the shooter. The leader and the shooter have the same shooting abilities, but the leader has a panoramic sighting system.

This system exists, for example, in Chinese Type 99 tanks.
