C-control

In syntax, the c-command (constituent-command (English)) is a relation between nodes in syntactic trees. For two nodes A and B, we say that A c-command B if A does not dominate B, B does not dominate A, and all the ancestors of A having strictly more than one descendant dominate B. In trees having no no knot to a single descendant, this amounts to saying that A dominates B if he has an ancestor of B for his brother.

Said another way: if A and B are sisters (or brothers) they c-command each other. A c-command the children of B, as B c-controls the children of A. But no one can c-control his parents.
