Cristina Bjørnsdatter


Cristina Bjørnsdatter (died 1160). Danish noblewoman, queen of Sweden, wife of King Erico the Saint. According to a medieval saga, the Knytlingasagan, was the daughter of Bjørn Jernside, grandson in turn of Erico I of Denmark. His mother was Catherine, daughter of King Inge I of Sweden.

Probably the royal Swedish ancestry of Cristina was one of the arguments for Erico the Saint to ascend to the throne of Sweden in 1156. Almost nothing is known of the life of the queen, except that he maintained an enmity with the newly consecrated Convent of Varnhem.
