François Eugène Turpin (1848 - January 24, 1927) was a French chemist in the investigation of new explosives. Biography

In 1881 Turpin proposed a class of explosive based on a mixture of a suitable fuel as an oxidant of dinitrogen tetroxide.

In 1885, based on the research of Hermann Sprengel, Turpin patented the use of pressing and melting of picric acid in cartridges. In 1887 the French government adopted under the name of Melinite and from 1888, Great Britain began to manufacture a very similar mixture in Lydd, Kent, under the name of 'Lidita and Japan followed with an improved formula.
