Fabrizio Giovanardi

Fabrizio Giovanardi (Sassuolo, December 14, 1966) is an Italian car driver.

He started his race career in karting before switching to Italian Formula 3. In 1989 he went over to Formula 3000 and won the race in Vallelunga. He then switched to the touring cars and won the Italian championship in 1992. In the following years, he tried the same in several other European tourcar championships and successfully: he won the Spanish Super Touring Championship in 1997. In addition, he again won the Italian championship in 1998 and 1999.

He became European Touring Champion in 2000, 2001 and 2002 for Alfa Romeo. In 2003, he stepped over to BMW, but had problems with the rear-wheel drive of the brand and switched back to Alfa Romeo in 2004.

Giovanardi became third in the World Touring Car Championship in 2005 behind Andy Priaulx and Dirk Müller. He went over to the British Touring Car Championship in 2006, driving a Vauxhall Astra. He came close to a first victory in Donington Park but fought in the last turn with Colin Turkington. His first win he achieved in Knockhill. This was also the 100th win of Vauxhall. In Brands Hatch he won his second race hereafter. In the final of the championship he scored fifth.

Giovanardi also rode for Vauxhall in the 2007 season. He became 300 points champion for Jason Plato.
