The Gaza Zoo is a leisure complex, a series of public gardens, a children's amusement park and a zoo created by the Gaza government in the spring of 2010 on a government property that used to be a garbage dump.
It is also or was a small private zoo, known as «Mara Land Zoo» located at the exit of Salahadin Street, in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. The zoo animals, like the local people, have suffered from the difficulties in Gaza and the zoo has frequently appeared in international media reports. The zoo was badly damaged during the 2008-09 war against Israel.
The zoo inventory, plus two lions, includes several eagles, some pigeons, some foxes, some cats, dogs, horses, wolves, geese, turtles, deer, monkeys, chickens, pheasants, peacocks and a camel.
